Scenic Artist

About the Role

Ivoryton Playhouse is seeking a skilled Scenic Artist to execute high-quality theatrical paint treatments for our upcoming productions. This position works closely with the Technical Director, scenic designers, and carpentry team to bring scenic environments to life.

Responsibilities

  • Execute scenic painting, including base coats, textures, faux finishes, and detail work
  • Translate designer renderings into finished stage scenery
  • Mix and manage paint materials and maintain inventory
  • Work collaboratively with scenic carpenters and production staff
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized paint area
  • Meet production deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications

  • Prior scenic painting experience (theatre, film, themed environments, or similar)
  • Ability to replicate textures such as wood, stone, metal, and aging/distressing
  • Comfort working on ladders and large-scale surfaces
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to take artistic direction
  • Self-motivated with strong time management

Bonus Skills (Not Required)

  • Fine arts background
  • Experience working from scale models and elevations
  • Knowledge of theatrical production processes

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
